Anti-Taliban Heroes Undeterred by Bombs

Pakistan's anti-Taliban heroes

The leader of a tribal militia in northwest Pakistan, undeterred by a suicide bombing in the area a day earlier, said Tuesday he was determined to fight off Taliban attempts to seize control of the region.

The bombers attacked the office compound of the top government official in the Mohmand region Monday during a meeting on ways of strengthening the militias, known as lashkars. At least 40 people were killed and 60 wounded.

“Listen, we are not going to lay down our arms. We will not let the Taliban re-take control of our land. We will fight them,” vowed Dilawar Adezai, whose 1,200-strong militia is one of those set up to help the government fight militants.

Adezai was critical of the level of government support for the militias.

“The government doesn’t even pay for the bullets we fire. It’s very sad. Militants are better off than my men because they get arms and ammunition free and their families receive compensation if they get killed,” he said.

Cash-strapped Pakistan needs all the help it can get in the fight against al Qaeda-linked militants bent on destabilizing its U.S.-backed government.

The army has launched several offensives against militants since last year. But its enemies often melt away when attacked, and suicide bombings persist, scaring away foreign investors needed for the fragile economy.

Pakistani authorities have been encouraging Pashtun tribesmen on the Afghan border to revive traditional militias to counter the rising Islamist militancy.

Under a centuries-old tradition, ethnic Pashtun tribes raise lashkars in their semi-autonomous regions to fight criminal gangs and enforce their tribal codes.

The Taliban have hit back by assassinating tribal elders and militiamen and carrying out suicide bombings.

“The Pakistani Taliban is very strong and we are not. There is no match. You have seen what they did with those who stood up against the Taliban,” said Aisamuddin Mehsud, a tribal elder in South Waziristan who resisted government pressure to form a lashkar.

The stakes are high. Some of the world’s most dangerous militant groups have bases and hideouts in the northwest tribal regions. The United States believes its war on militancy cannot be won unless Pakistan removes them.

“You cannot control such a large area for a long time with just soldiers and you have to push residents to take responsibility for the security of their village or town,” said a senior military official in the northwest.

“Tribesmen know their lives are at risk and militants will continue to attack them, but they have to fight for their survival.”

Mohammad Ali Haleemzai, who heads one of the tribal “peace” committees that oversee lashkar operations, seems determined to help keep the campaign going.

Umar Khalid: We Will Continue To Attack Pakistan To Stop Any Peace

Do you still believe the lies that Taliban are not a threat to our country and our way of life? Take it from the own mouth of the Umar Khalid:

Umar Khalid, head of the Pakistani Taliban in Mohmand Agency, said pamphlets had been distributed in the area 20 days ago warning members of peace committees or Lashkars (tribal militias) to abandon any efforts to join the government in fighting militants or face “consequences.”

“We will continue to attack all pro-government officials and their supporters who try to join any peace committees or Lashkars,” Khalid said.

And do you still believe that there is no connection between TTP and other militants?

Umar Khalid is said to provide sanctuary to top al-Qaeda and Taliban leaders as they flee operations by the army. These are said to include Hakimullah Mehsud and Ayman al-Zawahiri, our correspondent says.

Pakistan’s military says its offensives have disrupted militants in the north-west but analysts say the insurgents often escape.

This attack which was designed to attack a peace jirga can only be termed evil and an obvious sign that jihadi militants whether they are called by the name TTP, AQ, LeT or any others are working together to attack Pakistan within its own borders.

Gul-e-Khandana is a REAL Pakistani Nationalist

Gul-e-Khandana, a primary school headmistress in MattaSWAT: While fear and terror in the valley of Swat pushed everyone into acquiescence, Gul-e-Khandana not only resisted the militants but also saved her school from being blown up.

Gul-e-Khandana, who hails from Matta tehsil, is the headmistress of a primary school for girls in Sijban, Matta. “I have intense love for this school. Where I now teach, I studied as a young girl in primary school,” she tells The Express Tribune.

She is the first woman from  her family who chose to work outside the house, despite family pressure. “My family did oppose me but I resisted them because I wanted the girls of my village to be educated. For the first two years, I taught without a salary,” she said.

Education and literacy have never fared very well in Swat and when the militants intensified their hold in the region, education suffered the most. While most residents took fright, Gul-e-Khandana refused to. “When the militants started bombing schools, I feared for my school. I decided to transfer the record and furniture of my school to my home,” Gul-e-Khandana recalls.

The situation only seemed to worsen as the government gradually lost its control, she said. “The militants banned education for girls and blew up the schools where they could study,” she said.

As expected, her school was also on the list of schools to be attacked. “When they came to attack my school, I ran to it frantically. As they prepared to torch it, I blocked their way and told them to burn me first,” she says. “With Allah’s blessing, they retreated and my school was safe.”

The militants then launched personal attacks on Gul-e-Khandana and her family. “They called us infidels and came to our home to take away the school’s furniture and records. My children, our whole family were petrified but I did not lose heart and refused to let them even touch it.”

Gradually, as militancy took root in Swat and it became impossible for people to live in Swat, Gul-e-Khandana and his family moved to Mardan. “I was heartbroken. All I could think about was my school, the alma mater of the girls of our village,” she said.

The family returned only after the army declared that Swat valley had been cleared of militants. “You will not believe it but I walked all the way from Mingora to Sijban, immediately after peace was restored in the valley,” Gul-e-Khandana says. “Security forces had not yet allowed people to enter Matta and they apprehended me too, but I went running to the school before even going home.”

It was the happiest moment of Gul-e-Khandana’s life when she saw that her schools building was intact. “I felt pure joy and happiness when I saw that my school’s building, although partially-damaged, was still standing,” she says. “Since that day, I began working for the school. The army, Unicef and Sarhad Rural Support Programme contributed towards repairing the building and restoring water supply. They also provided furniture for students and teachers.” Gul-e-Khandana also admitted girls from a nearby middle school, which had been torched.

She now lives peacefully in Matta with her husband and five children. “My only wish is that the women from this region receive good education and are able to stand on their feet so that they can also work towards a better future for our homeland,” Gul-e-Khandana says.

EXPOSED: SECRET PLAN TO DIVIDE PAKISTAN

Proposed Map of Division Between Khilafa and India

Proposed Map of Boundaries Dividing Pakistan Between Khilafa and India

Several analysts have been trying to unravel what has quickly become the obvious conclusion that forces are at work against Pakistan, and that the end game is a New Partition that dissolves Pakistan from existence. But recent discoveries about who is behind this nefarious plot may surprise you.

WHO GAINS FROM DIVIDING PAKISTAN

Some excellent research has been done that suggests a trio of conspirators to this plan. These are CIA, RAW, and the network of jihadis supporting a pan-Islamic Khalifat that I will call Taliban for simplicity even though this is not exact. But something has always kept this theory from being readily acceptable. What would the US gain from a plan to divide Pakistan? At first it seemed obvious that the end game was taking control of Pakistan’s nuclear weapons. But this theory falls apart too quickly. Also, it ignores the reality of American military power and political hegemony. If the US wanted to divide Pakistan, it could do so easily just as it did when it broke up Yugoslavia in the 1990s.

American involvement in a plot to divide Pakistan is also impossible to reconcile with the level of military support being given. The US would not give $2 Billions in military support if it thought this would end up in the hands of Taliban militants and their allies. And even though the Americans do provide support to India, it is clear that they do not trust the Indians as a lone power, preferring to keep them on a short leash.

THE NEW COLD WAR

There are two groups who gain from this plan – the actual conspirators which are India and the Taliban as defined above. It may seem strange that two mortal enemies would cooperate to divide a country like this, but actually there is historical evidence for just such a plan. The American-Soviet Cold War saw frequent times when the two nations would divide up countries based on maintaining a balance of powers, all the while scheming to tip the balance and overthrow the other.

This was also the rationale behind India’s infamous acts against Pakistan in 1971. Certainly the Congress was no friend to Awami League in Dhaka, but it was a marriage of convenience as they say. Both Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Indira Ghandi got their wishes by severing East Pakistan. Do you not see that today Manmohan Singh is playing the same game with Mullah Omar? Why do you think that peace talks are rejected every year?

When Pakistan was but a dream in the hearts and souls of Allama Iqbal and Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, it was already opposed by Syed Abul A’ala Maududi and other Islamists who rejected the idea of a sovereign nation and instead were at the time still promoting openly a pan-Islamic Khilafa. Only when Pakistan became a reality from the blood and sacrifice of our ancestors were these anti-Pakistan voices silenced. Just because their story changed, their plans did not change. They have continued to work behind the scenes to create a new Khilafa in which they are the self-appointed rulers. This is why they continually look to the Ottoman

26/11 WAS JOINT OPERATION BETWEEN LeT AND RAW

This marriage of convenience is the basis for carrying out the division of Pakistan. By now it is quite clear that the 26/11 attack in Mumbai was carried out as an inside job coordinated by RAW. Though the actual violence was carried out by LeT militants, such an obvious plot could only be possible if RAW looked the other way long enough to allow for the acts to be carried out. In fact, six days before the attacks the security of the hotel was stopped. This is because RAW and LeT must have been working together.

Now, there has been some confusion over the involvement of the American David Headley. But when the facts of his case are understood vis-a-vis the New Partition, it all begins to make sense. When David Headley was arrested, American officials refused to let RAW agents interrogate him for three months. This is because CIA had become aware of the connections between LeT and RAW and had to ensure that there was no time for RAW agents to slip Headley a ‘suicide pill’ or to ‘get their story straight’ about how his involvement would be explained. This is also why India is so determined to have Headley extradited so they can silence him for good.

INDIAN VIOLENCE IN KASHMIR

Indian police preparing to hand over Kashmir to jihadi control

Indian police preparing to hand over Kashmir to jihadi control

Most recently, the Kashmir intifada has taken a curious change. Islamic lashkars are no longer committing attacks while the frequency and intensity of Indian violence against Muslims has skyrocketed. Actually, what militancy has been witnessed in Kashmir recently has been of the defensive variety in which individuals are trying to protect the people and property against Indian violence.

Indians are basically carrying out a slash and burn program against Muslim Kashmie because the agreement with the jihadis allows that it will be ceded to the Taliban. India has understandably agreed to this because it has become unrealistic for them to maintain control over a Muslim population that demands their rights, and India would gladly trade this parcel of land for some others.

JIHADI VIOLENCE IN KARACHI AND LAHORE

Jihadi from Lahore bombing attacks arrested by police AKA national heroes

Jihadi from Lahore bombing attacks arrested by police AKA national heroes

Just as the lashkars have pulled out of Kashmir, they have reorganized in force in Karachi and Lahore. This is because these cities will fall on the Indian side of the new partition. Look at the targets of militant violence in both cities. Targets have been government security infrastructure like CID headquarters and religious locations. Like their Indian co-conspirators, Taliban are not going to leave behind any gifts for the new tenants. Jihadis are bombing mosques and holy sites for two reasons. First, these sites they are attacking are Sufi or Shia or some other site that is considered bid’ah according to the Wahhabism of the jihadis. Just as they destroyed the Buddhas of Bamyan with no care for history, so they are also willing to burn Abdullah Shah Ghazi shrine. But the additional reason is that they know that the Hindus will make a mockery of any remaining holy sites, even if they do not meet the artificial standards of piety that are the inventions of the jihadi leadership to secure their control over Pakistanis.

END GAME

Just as during the Cold War between America and the Soviets, each side is willing to make some sacrifice and play a great game because they believe that in the end they will be able to overcome the other. The jihadis believe that they can establish a Khilafa-e-Rashid from the land of Afghanistan and Western Pakistan and use this as a base to expand their power. For this they are willing to sacrifice parts of the Punjab and Sindh. They see this as a temporary condition only because they believe they will regain this land as the Ottomans who are their model.

Similarly, the Indians see such a plan of their own. It will be some sacrifice for them to finally loose their grip on Jammu and Kashmir but they will see this also as a temporary condition while they gain Karachi and Lahore. Islamabad, of course, they will rename for Harbaksh after their general of 1965 war since this will be the greatest insult.

The end game then is for Pakistan to be no more. To the jihadis and the Indians both it is merely an obstacle in the way of their game for power.

STOPPING THIS PLAN THE DUTY OF EVERY PAKISTANI

Protecting the integrity and sovereignty of Pakistan must be the priority number one of all Pakistani nationalists. Now that the RAW-Jihadi connection has been made, we must unite to break its back. In the words of the Quaid-e-Azam, “In our solidarity, unity and discipline lie the strength, power and sanction behind us to carry on this fight successfully.”

Presently there are forces trying to divide us so that we may be conquered. Some are sworn enemies such as India and some are false allies such as the religious militant groups. We cannot allow them to succeed.

“Muslims! Protect your Hindu Neighbours. Cooperate with the Government and the officials in protecting your Hindu Neighbours against these lawless elements, fifth columnists and cliques. Pakistan must be governed through the properly constituted Government and not by cliques or fifth columnists or Mobs.” (Qaid-i-Azam, 9 January 1948)

Just as Jinnah called on us to protect our Hindu neighbors in 1948 so we must protect all of our fellow Pakistani brothers in 2010. There are evil forces at work that are trying to divide our nation into sects and ethnic groups so that our national identity as Pakistanis will weaken. Our national identity is like the mortar and we are the bricks which may be of different colors or shapes or sizes, but held together with the mortar of our nationalist pride the wall is impenetrable.

Killing Our Own Children

How can anybody say that Taliban are patriots? How can someone say they are Muslims even? These are destroying schools for learning and building schools for killing. They are using our children as bombs and killing us at the roots. This is like some demons from hell.

The Taliban have established schools on the outskirts of Pakistan’s Karachi city where sermons are delivered to woo youths, said a teenaged would-be suicide bomber arrested Monday.

Sixteen-year-old Mohammad Salaam, a student of Class IX, had met Tehreek-e-Taliban leader Zahir Shah at one of these schools.

“Shah said that becoming a suicide bomber was my ticket to heaven, and on the Day of Judgement I would have nothing to worry about,” the News International quoted Salaam as saying.

Look at the face of this boy. Taliban would have him dead. This is their goal.

Mohammad Salaam

Speaking to Daily Times, 16-year-old Salam, a student of class IX and a resident of Sohrab Goth, said he met Rehman at a mosque in Sohrab Goth, who then influenced him to carry out a suicide attack.

“They warned me that if I deny carrying out the attack or tell anybody about this, they would slit my throat,” said Salam, adding that it was the fear of being slaughtered that he agreed on the suicide bombing.

“I was ready to leave for South Waziristan but fortunately saved in the raid,” he explained.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested militants were involved in various heinous crimes. They also work for the banned religious outfit of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and often visited slain Baitullah Mehsud, Qari Hussain Mehsud and other prominent TTP commanders including Wahab Mehsud in South Waziristan to share terror related information.

SSP Shahid said militant Rehman was a close associate of the TTP leadership and involved in brainwashing innocent children for suicide bombings.

SSP Aslam added that during interrogation the militants have confessed slaughtering one of their accomplices named Shahid alias Rangar due to suspected involvement with agencies.

He further said that other accomplices of the arrested militants including Umar Farooq, Gul Zareen and Zahir Shah managed to escape from the scene.

We must destroy this menace before it destroys our very future that is our own children.

Let Government Take Over Flood Rehabilitation, Let Army Fight Taliban

Source: Daily Times

Merciless and vengeful, the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has struck once again, this time in a police colony in Kohat. Detonating an explosives-laden pickup inside the compound, just behind the guarded police lines, the blast ripped through almost 300 buildings, including schools, markets and residential homes. The scenes were truly horrific as the majority of the 20 killed were women and children who were inside their homes during iftaar time. It is expected that the death toll will rise as there were still some people trapped under the rubble of the TTP’s latest attack.

Vowing to take revenge for the drone strikes in the tribal areas, the TTP has promised more attacks on security and government officials. Such grim announcements and brutal massacres should not come as a surprise as the past week has demonstrated just how determined the militants are to step up their game now that the military’s attention has been diverted towards flood relief. Anyone who thought that the softest targets in society — women, children and residential areas — would be safe, has not understood the reality of the shadowy enemy we are up against. The militants aim to cause maximum damage, widespread fear and loss of lives to prove their point; what better way than to target the most vulnerable? That is why Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain has urged the security forces to implement well-coordinated and effective action against the terrorists. He has stated that it is vital that military attention be diverted from the floods to the insurgency once again.

After such an attack and chilling warning, it is vital that all efforts be taken to protect such areas. When it has been proclaimed that government, security and police officials are under the most threat, nothing should be left to chance; check-posts, apart from being an irritant, have done nothing to secure the urban and settled areas. We need better intelligence to prevent the militants from moving ahead with their dastardly mission. An insecure security force translates into one that is incapable of securing the citizenry.

As further evidence of the virulent spread of terrorism in all its manifestations, the Vice Chancellor (VC) of Islamia College University, Dr Ajmal Khan, was kidnapped on Tuesday by suspected militants. Dr Ajmal is the cousin of Awami National Party’s Chief Asfandyar Wali Khan. It is suspected that the VC has been taken to the Khyber Agency in an eerily similar fashion to the November 2009 kidnapping of the VC of Kohat University of Science and Technology, Dr Lutfullah Kakakhel, who was also spirited off and kept in captivity by the militants for six months. Targeting senior academics is in line with the Taliban view of obliterating education. Another girls school has been blown up in Kalam. This is sadly a routine activity for the militants.

The terrorists are spreading and setting off their attacks like literal hand grenades in almost all regions of the country — tribal and urban. From Kohat to Hangu, where a blast targeting two police mobile vans killed one constable, and Karachi, where an activist of the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat was gunned down, no place seems safe from the grip of terrorism. It is time that a full throttle plan is enforced against this scourge that is making its malignant presence felt every single day.

It is time that the flood relief transitioned into rehabilitation. It is time that the government and civil administration of the country take over managing the flood efforts from the army so that an organised military offensive once again strikes at the heart of the Taliban insurgency. Without the army fully engaging in eliminating the terrorists, such attacks are likely to be witnessed with increasing frequency.

No Time For Conspiracy Theories

floodsWe are in the middle of a crisis of historic proportions. A fifth of the nation is underwater, millions are homeless. The military is working overtime to run rescue and relief missions. And what are the conspiracy theorists doing? Telling the craziest stories you ever heard and distracting from the real need to help our brothers.

Recent years have seen dramatic and devastating weather-related disasters: Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Ike in the USA, earthquake in Haiti, tsunami in Indonesia, wildfires in Russia, landslides in China, record heat waves in Finland, and now terrible flooding in Pakistan.

Serious analysts have said that it is obvious that global warming has caused much of this disaster.

“We will always have climate extremes. But it looks like climate change is exacerbating the intensity of the extremes,” said Omar Baddour, chief of climate data management applications at WMO headquarters in Geneva.

But finding real solutions and ways to prevent further destruction has not stopped the conspiracy theorists from trying to distract people from the real reasons with their ridiculous stories.

The latest story going around is that the floods are caused by something called ‘HAARP’, a High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program, a program of the US military to analyze the skies for missles. Conspiriacy theorists believe that it is a weather control program.

This is beyond stupid. If the USA had a weather control program, do you really believe that George W Bush would have allowed the Hurricanes that almost sank his government? Never. Even with the floods, it is clear that jihadi groups are using this as an opportunity to attack Pakistan. It benefits their schemes to control the people with fear. Do these conspiracy theorists say that TTP is using this weather machine? Ridiculous.

While this flood is the worst in history, it is sadly not the first time that we have experienced the flooding. It is not some magic weather control machine, it is simply the

This is no time for conspiracy theories, it is time for REAL Pakistani Nationalists to come together to save our brothers and sisters and to save our country.
